Grid paralysis creates Off-Grid self-consumption opportunities. My take from Genera, Spain's largest energy trade fair.
Grid paralysis creates Off-Grid self-consumption opportunities. My take from Genera, Spain's largest energy trade fair:
Large-scale
battery installations in Spain face 24+ month permitting delays. Grid
connection auctions are sporadic and unpredictable. Result? Energy
storage and capital is redirecting to off-grid applications.
Numbers
that matter: Current grid utilization in Spain sits below 10%. Other
countries achieve 20-40% through flexibility mechanisms. This is a true
paradox given our smart, digitalised generation and end consumption
metering. The gap represents massive underutilized infrastructure, not
because capacity doesn't exist, but because regulatory frameworks block
access.
💡Where
investment is moving: Self-consumption projects, electric power for
production facilities, data centers and industrial heating. Energy
storage and Power to X (mostly power to heating). These bypass the grid
bottleneck entirely while delivering immediate returns.
Andalucia
(where I am from) specifically offers strong tailwinds: pro-renewable
regional government, ample industrial incentives and project-ready
sites.
🇪🇸 What I am working on:
currently closing financing on an industrial renewable project with an
end client secured, leveraging hydrothermal storage. Following insights
from Genera, I am shifting focus to actively sourcing additional
investible projects in Andalucia and across Spain for international
investors, particularly energy storage and Power-to-X in industry.

If you are evaluating Spanish market entry or industrial energy
investments leveraging EU-backed funds, and want ground-level
intelligence on what's actually moving versus what's stuck in
permitting—let's talk.
If you are developing an industrial renewable project seeking financing, I can connect you with international capital.
